3-Step Smart Regulators
Why a 3-Step Regulator?
A weekend sailor may motor for 1/2 hour to get out of the harbor, raise the sails and not motor again (unless anchoring or docking) until returning to home port. Most 3-step regulators would not have left Step 1, the Bulk Charge Mode. For this application, the PowerMax 2-step regulator is fine. For long term motoring, the advantages of a 3-step are clear. When batteries are full, the 3 step will go into Step 3, the Float Mode, where the charging voltage is reduced. Batteries need this to maximize their useful lives. PowerMax owners often purchase a 3-step regulator and keep the PowerMax 2-step regulator as a backup.

MAX CHARGE

The Max Charge regulator is an advanced microprocessor controlled voltage regulator designed for use with PowerMax high output alternators. The Max Charge has seven user selectable, multivoltage and variable charge time programs to accomodate all battery types. Simple “out of the box” hookup with magnetic switch adjustments. Features an automatic absorbtion time program and LED indicators. Optional alternator and battery temperature sensors are available.

ARS-5
A lower cost version of the Max Charge, the ARS-5 3-Step Regulator is a great match for our PowerMax Alternators. It ensures a fast, full charge and gives complete battery protection. Recommended for long term motoring where an adjustable float charge level setting is needed. It includes an equalize function and also offers optional alternator temperature sensing.
